Our Mission

"We care for and study the Novato Baylands"

What is NBS?

We’re the Novato Baylands Stewards (NBS), an organization sponsored by MarinLink (a 501(c)3 organization). We’re a sustainable, resourceful community partner made up of concerned community members and professionals dedicated to the restoration, improvement and appreciation of baylands along the San Pablo Bay shoreline. We foster community engagement, hands-on training in environmental jobs, and ecological education, with an eye to engaging underserved populations.

Partners

We envision our stakeholders working with the California Coastal Conservancy (landowners), the US Army Corps of Engineers (federal partner) and other organizations with our experts and volunteers to improve and sustain the Novato  Baylands.

Public

We envision public access to the Novato Baylands is balanced and aligned with ecosystem best practices to provide the public with opportunities for access, recreation, education and to share the beauty and value of the Novato Baylands.

Wetlands

We envision the Hamilton and Bel Marin Keys Wetlands (the Novato Baylands) as a thriving ecosystem and a home for native flora and local and migratory fauna in an urban environment.

Our sponsors

Novato Baylands Stewards is a recipient of Prop 68 funding from the Coastal Conservancy. Funding from the California State Coastal Conservancy through Proposition 68 has made the work of Novato Baylands Stewards possible. The Coastal Conservancy is a California state agency, established in 1976, to protect and improve natural lands and waterways, to help people get to and enjoy the outdoors, and to sustain local economies along California’s coast. It acts with others to protect and restore, and increase public access to, California’s coast, ocean, coastal watersheds, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Its vision is of a beautiful, restored, and accessible coast for current and future generations of Californians.
